WORLD CULTURES

In sixth grade Social Studies, students study people, places, and societies of the contemporary world. A variety of primary, secondary, and ancillary materials support the learning of required content and skills. Societies selected for study are chosen from the following regions of the world: the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The focus of the course is to examine contemporary societies as the basis for learning specific concepts of history, culture, government, economics and religion. Units of geography, culture, government, and economics are taught during the First Six Weeks. For the remainder of the school year, these broad concepts are reinforced within each regional unit of study. The major world religions are covered within the framework of the regional studies.
